Create a Bank Rule
In Clickentry, you can create and use bank rules to help reconcile frequently recurring bank statement lines that you haven’t created transactions in Clickentry for.
When you create bank rules then Clickentry suggest a new transaction for you based on these rules. In such a case you don’t have to create a transaction manually.
How it Works
- You can create bank rules from either the bank rules screen or during bank reconciliation, or while you’re cash coding.
- Instead of creating a transaction manually, you can use bank rules to reconcile the statement line for cash payments.
- Clickentry suggests a transaction for each bank statement line that matches a rule you have set.
- If you know that the suggested transaction isn’t quite right then you can edit the transaction, create a new one, or find a transaction you’ve already entered into Clickentry so that it can be matched with the statement line.
- The important thing to remember is that the bank rules you have set won’t suggest reconciling a statement line against a transaction already created in Clickentry, such as an invoice, bill, or expense claim. However, you can match it manually.
Bank Rules Screen
If you want to create a more complex bank rule then you can set multiple conditions.
- In the Accounts menu, select Bank accounts.
- Click on the Bank Rule button.
- Select the type of rule you want to create by clicking on Create Spend Money Rule or Create Receive Money Rule.
- Enter the Conditions to create the rule.
- Click Save.
During Bank Reconciliation
When you want to create a bank rule while reconciling your bank account then the type of the rule will be based on the statement line you want to reconcile. Clickentry may suggest some conditions and rules titles based on your bank statement line and thus sets the bank rules to the one you are reconciling.
- On the bank reconciling screen, click on the Create Rule link just above the statement line you want to reconcile.
- Enter the Conditions to create the rule.
- Click on Save.
- Clicking on Ok, it will apply the rule to the statement line.
While You’re Cash Coding
When you are creating a bank rule while reconciling cash transactions using Cash Coding then the type of rule will depend on the statement line you want to reconcile. Clickentry may suggest some conditions and rules titles based on your bank statement line and thus sets the bank rules to the one you are reconciling.

- On the bank reconciling screen, click on the Cash Coding button.
- Click on the arrow next to the transaction for which you want to create a bank rule and then select Create Bank Rule option.
